Past
It was during the witches' dark ages that Kyrell came screaming into the world just ten minutes before his twin sister Kieran. Their parents, whom had been trying for years to have a child were overjoyed with the fact they had two. However, their glee over Kyrell and Kieran was short lived as it became clear that the twins were extremely gifted with magic. If their parents had been among the more prestigious member of the clan having children whom could be described as nothing less than prodigies would have been a great cause for celebration, but since they were among the poorest members of the clan they believed that those above them would react poorly to their children's gifts. They might even accuse them of using nefarious means to produce children with such talents. It was a thought that plagued their father more than their mother. In fact, there were times that their their father was certain Kyrell and Kieran wasn't his, but his wife's reassurance that since their marriage she had never been with another man besides him always had him dismissing those doubts.
They both were correct. The man whom Kyrell and Kieran called father was not their actual father, at least not completely. His body was their father, but since the void itself--the primordial darkness which the creator of witches is said to have sprung from---had decided for one reason or another to sleep with their mother some of the void's traits passed onto them. This was not knowledge that their parents had access to, and it might have changed things if it had. In the end, their parents decided that they needed to suppress their children's powers, lest they gain the attention of the aristocracy and be accused of trying to change the status quo. Witches society of this time was very rigid, and any attempt to raise one's lot in life was often met with hostility. There were also exceptions, but their parents doubted that they would be one of them. However, nothing they did worked. The more they tried to restrict their children's power the more they seemed to develop. Than one day their father came up with a clever idea. He noticed that their powers worked best together, and concluded that if one of them died that the other's powers would decrease greatly. In fact, he believed that if one of them died that the other's powers would decrease to the point that his would be considered remarkable by comparison.
He knew exactly how he was going to do the deed. There were a woods not to far from where they were that was controlled by a pack of wolves, whom had a reputation of being extremely blood thirsty killers that attacked anything whom isn't a member of their pack that wanders into their territory. He took his seven year old children and lost them int he woods. He hoped that by the time he returned with a search party that the wolves would have taken care of at least one of his children. It didn't take long for their father's wish to come true. The rumors of these wolves proved to be very true, and when they caught Kyrell's and Kieran's scent they decided to show them the same amount of mercy as anyone whom entered into their territory, which was none. It did not matter if they were mere children. Kyrell did his best to protect his sister, but it was not enough. The exact moment that the wolves brought his sister down is forever etched into his mind. It all happened so quickly. Kyrell had tripped over a raised root of a tree. He had taken his eyes off his sister for only a moment, but when he looked up a wolf had seized Kieran within its jaw.
Kyrell
had no time to react, because as soon as his eyes landed upon the wolf
whom had seized his sister he heard the audible crunch of the wolf’s jaw
closing around Kieran’s body and then saw her body being flung into a
nearby tree like a rag doll.
Just as his sister's broken body hit that tree, Kyrell noticed the other wolves circling around him. They lunged towards him with every intention of doing onto him what had just been done onto his sister, but at that very moment Kyrell lashed out with his powers, killing many of the wolves around him. Those whom remained took off running after deciding that maybe trying to kill this child was not a rise idea. Kyrell wanted to run after them, and put every last one of them down. However, before he could act upon that urge he realized he had more important matters to attend to. He saw his sister's body laying upon the ground, and he rushed to her side. Even through every evidence claimed that she was died, he refused to believe it. He begged and pleaded with her to get up, and his powers responded to his desire for his twin to be alive and well. They rose his sister from the grave, but if anyone had stumbled upon the twins they would believe his resuscitation was not a perfect one. They would believe that Kieran's soul had not been restored to her body, and as such she was nothing more than a walking corpse. They would not see the tiniest flicker of her soul's light attempting to heal the damage that been done onto her body when the wolf killed her.
However, there was no way to know for certain because their father would not succeed in bringing a rescue team to his children's location. Truth be told, his plan had fallen apart even before his return. His wife's conscience got the better of her, and instead of waiting around for her husband to return she decided to seek help for her children herself. She made her way towards the estate of the lord whose land they had been allowed to reside upon, but she would not find the aid she sought there. The lord took one look at the woman standing before him, and decided that he wanted her as his own. He locked her within his tower where he kept her for the rest of her days, and where she would end up giving birth to several of his children. Her husband upon returning home and discovering that his wife was gone knew exactly where she had gone decided to return back to the woods he had abandoned his children. He hoped that he would cross path with the rescue team before they came upon his children, but since there was no rescue team the only thing he found within the forest was death.
Meanwhile, Kyrell sat with his sister for some time, waiting for what he didn't know. The entire situation of what had just transpired playing along with his head. He wanted to return home, but even at his young age he understood just what his father had done. He didn't know why his father had done it nor did he comprehend why his parents treated him and his sister in the manner they had, at least not completely. He thought it was because he had done something wrong, but he couldn't be able to say what exactly it was. He feared that returning home would put his sister back into the same situation, and that their parents would finish what they had tried to accomplish this day. He concluded that he couldn't go to another member of the Giese clan because if his parents hated their own children there was no way that a stranger wouldn't. It was for this reason that he decided to take his sister deeper into the forest, hoping that within the safety of the trees Kieran would be able to heal. His plan worked. It was a slow process, but eventually Kieran returned to as she had been before the wolf had gotten a hold of her.
During this time a number of those creatures whom dwell within the forest tried to put an end to Kyrell and Kieran. Some because they did not like someone wandering into their territories. Others merely because they saw the twin as food. Kyrell quickly put an end to their efforts, and when Kieran got better she joined her powers with him. Alone they were remarkable, but together they were truly something indescribable. It didn't take long for stories of them to spread across the planet, and for individuals travel to the forest in an attempt to bring the twins underneath their control. Their minds were filled with all the things they might be able to achieve if they had such powers under their beck and call. Kyrell
wanted nothing to do with their plans, but it appeared that no one would
put his wish into consideration. The more he resisted the more they
decided they wanted Kyrell and Kieran—even the wolves that had
attempted to kill the twins years before sought to bring them within
their ranks. Through, they claimed that such a thing was only natural as
their attack had changed Kyrell and his twin into one of them. Words
Kyrell refused to accept, and he showed the world that magic really was
your will thrust against the world by erasing the wolf from both Kieran
and him.
This
only served to make others to seek his powers even more. They could only
imagine what else he might be able to do if he could do something as
impossible as making himself and his twin not into a wolf. These
attempts only fueled Kyrell’s dislike and distrust for the world outside
the forest that Kieran and he had made into their home. Truth be told,
only the faeries and those other creatures whom dwelled within the
forest didn’t expect anything from them. Sure, they sometimes tried to
kill them, but Kyrell regarded these attempts as them being nothing more
than true to their nature. The passage of years had allowed Kyrell to
regard all those whom called the forest home as family. They were the
family that Kyrell always wanted, and in many ways they encouraged
Kyrell and Kieran to grow in ways that their parents never
had—especially the fae, whom took more of a direct approach in assisting
the twins. It
wasn’t long before Kyrell realized that the only way to keep people from
trying to drag him away from his home was by making himself something
not worth tracking into a forest that is known not to be kind to
outsiders.
He begun to kill many of those whom came after him, and
allowed a few escape to warn others what had happened. This didn’t
discouraged them right away, but they got the message after he tracked
down and killed every wolf—even leaving his forest to do so. After
this, it was decided that it might be best to let the two siblings be.
No one wanted to be responsible for the death of their species. They had
no idea what the wolves might have done to warrant such action. They
didn’t know Kyrell killed them all as retribution for the attack upon
him and his sister, believing that all wolves were bloodthirsty killers
whom slaughter for sport and the only way he could protect his family
from future wolf’s attacks was ridding the world of them. They didn’t
know that it was only after the fact that he decided to use what he had
done as a warning to anyone whom threaten the safety of his family. It
worked. People stopped coming to the forest to seek him out, and try to
bring him and his sister underneath their control. People still
sometimes tried to seek them out, but only to try gain their aid in
things believed that only a witch of the woods could provide. If they
manage to survive the forest for an extended period of time and proves
willing to pay his price Kyrell is more than happy to grant their
request.
He does nothing to aid or hinder those whom enter the forest as
one of his clients, expect when it comes to children. Kyrell have a
soft spot for children, and will often take them underneath his
protection whenever he comes upon them within his forest. Over the years
many children have found their way into the forest, and most of them
wasn’t because they sought a witch of the woods aid. They
were left in the woods—just as Kyrell and Kieran had been—with the hope
they would be killed. This only furthered fueled his dislike for the
world outside his forest until he decided he wanted nothing to do with a
world whom some blatantly disregarded their young in such a manner. He
took these children underneath his wings, teaching them how to survive
within the forest but most of all teaching them how to use their magic.
He learned from them why they had been left to die. Some were like him
having come from poor families whom feared the attention their powers
might bring. Many more, however, came from prestigious heritage and
found their
powers or lack of to be an embarrassment that needed to be gotten rid
of. He regarded these children as his own. Some remained within the
forest, content to live out their days among the trees. Others sought to
make a name for themselves outside the woods. Some return either for a
visit or to spend the rest of their days in the only place they could
truly call home. Others he never see again, and only learn through the
grapevines what had become of them.
It was
during this time that Kieran and his relationship grew more physical.
They became lovers, and eventually they would have children together.
The oldest a boy named Kieran. He was named such because Kyrell had been
certain that his mother was going to perish giving birth to him. She
had known that giving birth to her first child would take a great toll
upon her, and even believed that it might kill her. She made Kyrell
promise not to use his powers to aid her if her suspicions were correct,
because she believed that any attempts on his part would do more harm
than good—especially for their children. He wanted to tell her that was
bullshit, but decided to do as she requested. It wasn’t easy watching
her slip away, but in the end everything turned out okay. They raised their son together, watching as he grew into something truly remarkable. Their son was a sponge that absorbed whatever information was provided to him, and he had a million questions. About Magic, about the world---the forest and what laid beyond the forest. Kyrell and his sister did to best to answer these questions, and when they couldn't provide their son with the answers he sought the fae would.
While the faeries have always been helpful to Kyrell and his sister they appeared especially so with their son. Going out of their way to aid him in ways they never would do the twins. Kyrell passed it off as nothing more than viewing him as their child they had seen be born and watch grow. His sister gave birth to a daughter named Aila several years after their son, but her birth did not take the same toll upon his sister's body as their son had. Kieran claimed that her first child was always meant to be hard--even for a witch. It was a side effect of being brought back from the dead. However, Kyrell isn't certain. He believes that it has something to do with him. Aila isn't biological his daughter. He regards her as such, but he knows he that he isn't physically her father. He believes that anyone whom gives birth to his child will find themselves facing a near death experience like his sister, and since most are not as strong as Kieran they will more than likely die from childbirth.
Present
Their son decided that he wished to see the world outside the forest for himself, and while Kyrell might wish that he stayed he did nothing to stop him. He raised his children--biological or not---to be their own person, and to find their own truths even if it went against his truths. He didn't know it at the time of his son's departure that he wanted to leave in order to create a world where children are not tossed to the wolves, as the saying goes, for not being what society wanted them to be. It was only after he returned home after being away for several years that Kyrell learned of his son's intention as well as discover that he, his sister and their son were all concepts. Their son explained to them that concepts were guides created by the goddess to help the witch species grew, but something happened that destroyed the concepts. This event caused them to exploded in many pieces, and over the course of the eons these pieces formed new lives. However, this was not how it is suppose to be. There is only suppose to be six creative concepts, as he calls them. Not Twelve. Not Forty. Not six thousand. Just six. Over the course of the eons these pieces have found each other and merged together, but their son believes that if the process is not sped up that their entire world will be destroyed.
It is for this reason that their son have decided to search for these other concepts, and merge them with their original concepts. He knows that three of the concepts are missing, and so he places their essence inside crystals he keeps around his neck that he will give to the other three when he finds them. Not everyone understand the reasons for his son's actions, and view him as a cruel dictator that needs to be stopped. Rebel groups have formed with the sole intention of stopping Kyrell's son from creating the world that his desire. Kieran is not at all phased by this. He claims that such a thing is expected. Change is not easy, and it is only natural that they want to fight against it. However, when everything is said and done they will praise him for what he had done, and his parents will be able to take their proper place among the people. Kyrell isn't certain if this is what he wants. He doesn't care if the world every accepts him. He will be happy to spend the rest of his days within his forest, but he will do nothing to keep his son's dream from becoming a reality.
